Saturday 25th January

Well this was to be the longest ride out I have ever done. Met up with my neighbour Simon just after 08.30 and decided on a ride out through the lanes. We carried out towards Cooling Castle and Cliffe. Roads were flooded in places however, I was not prepared for a big hill climb towards High Halsow. This was a different route that I had rode on Monday night.
I always made a point to mention to Simon, I always rode up the hills and not walk. Now I know why he took me this route. I gave in and near the top of the hill, I had no choice to get off and walk. Crumbs that hurt!
After a brief stop for quick drink from my bottle we continued with our journey out towards Allhallows, where we looped and made a return back via Kings North and Chattenden.
I started to feel the pain now in my legs and the smallest inclines were taking me more time to ride.
As we approached the final part of the ride, I was hurting in the legs and concentrated on more, the reason why I am doing the training.
Eventually we made it to home after clocking up 25 miles, yes I did type 25 miles. However, it did take nearly three hours!

Monday 20th January

Nice evening for a gentle 10 mile run out to High Halstow. Set off about 16.45 hrs, nice to see all the rush hour traffic stuck in queue's. I cycled past with a smug smile on my face.
My route is available to see at www.strava.com/activities/107777631
Had my first accident this evening, some idiot in a Black Corsa drove down a closed road and tried to reverse back out, just missed me, and I could not get my foot out the pedal clips quick enough. Yes I landed in the side hedge, and no, I was not hurt. Only damage was my pride. (lol)

Sunday 19th January

Set off at 9am this morning with Simon. Weather was nice the odd cloud about, which meant, it was not cold. In fact at times I was considering taking my jacket off.

We set off towards Gravesend along the side of the motorway until we reached the Cyclopark at Northfleet. A quick nose at the park, and a short ride past to the bottom of Pepper Hill.

We turned and headed back the way we came. It seemed all up hill on the return leg, and at times, it felt a real hard push. However, I managed without stopping on the hills. I did stop at the top though, I needed a drink.

Used my Strava app again and clocked 15 miles and a top speed of 30mph.

Tuesday 14th January

Thought I would take a gamble on the weather and go for a quick ride out. Managed to do 7.5 miles as a nice easy route from home. Started using the Strava App on my phone to log my routes, great app lots of details.

Sunday 12th January

Worked late last night, so was not an early start. I was glad really as it was a heavy frost the night before and at least the sun was out. I met up with my neighbour Simon and we had a nice ride out to Gravesend River Front and back. We clocked up 17 miles and managed to get back before the rain.
I tried out my new bike shoes that click into the pedals. Much better than my trainers I wore last week, that kept sliding off.
My children keep laughing at me in all my gear, I will post a picture soon, but no bad comments please!
I will try and start training mid week, but the weather is a problem at the moment, with the rain and high winds.

1st Ride

My first ride out was on Sunday 5th January. I met up with members from the www.goskyride.com at Hoo for a 09.15 start. I managed to do 16 miles and thoroughly enjoyed myself. I must point out I was hurting a little in the afternoon. Weather was cold with frost, but soon warmed up.

Welcome!
